Representation Matters

Education

Councilman Mike Jones has seen firsthand the struggle of using sparse resources to do more with less at the local level and wants to invest state dollars into equity driven education like universal pre-K.

Economic Mobility

Mike wants to give the kids a pathway to the middle class. Jobs with good benefits, a $15/hr minimum wage and create a great economy that works for everyone.

Justice Reform

As a black man, Mike knows people of color are over represented in the criminal justice system and underrepresented in elected office. We need to rectify some of the wrongs of the past but more importantly stop the next generation from being pulled into the system. Mike wants to slow the school to prison pipeline, reform policing, help returning citizens get into the workforce, and eliminate mandatory minimum sentences.

Environment

Mike knows that climate change is real. We must do more to reduce our emissions and protect the public health of Richmond citizens. It is unacceptable that we have some of the highest rates of asthma in the country and flooding in our neighborhoods. Mike understands the need for environmental justice, it is 10% hotter in some parts of the 77th than others. We need to fight at the state level for tree canopies, greenspace, and improvements to the James River Park System. Mike has taken a pledge not to take any campaign contributions from Dominion Energy.

Women’s Health

Mike has and will always fight for women to control their own healthcare decisions. He feels strongly that the government should never limit access to or prevent a woman from making their own choices.
